CITY ASKARIS. 'WOLVES IN SHEEP CLOTHING'

Chitchatting With Javada, walking to the bus stop. There's commotion here and there, with business stores :shops, salons, mini supermarkets, the disobeying bars which open anytime despite the Mututho law, the wooden setups of Mama Mboga, are all getting closed. This is unusual, it's in the afternoon, the prime duration where the biashara is at it's peak. We notice the Mouthy Mama Mboga alerting people, as she runs from shop to shop, tightening her leso,  clapping hands,"kanjo ! Kanjo! "oh it's the men in yellow!

Javada :These people take bribes if they find no license to your store
Self : oh so, by closing down the stores, the owners escape the deal?
Meg :yes, thanks to the Mouthy Mama Mboga
Self:so true! The investigator, noticed them from a far. Ah! She is the Mouthy Mama Mboga, you know.

You only get to hear about the city Council askaris yet never witnessed how they take advantage of the goods at your store if you don't show the license to it. People complain but there's nothing done by the county government. Especially in the city of Nairobi, hawkers are brutally harassed. The Askaris chasing them from the streets, with whips and 'nyaunyos' They show no mercy to the women, leave alone the mothers with children on their backs and around them. How they destroy the goods is heartbreaking!Take an instance of women selling stacks of oranges and vegetables.

Hell breaks loose the minute they spot the Askaris.. It's a 'miguu niponye' moment for them. If your legs can't carry you, then the Kanjo will . we are left trying to fit shoes sold by a hawker who's running from the Askaris and Meg is happy about this but come to think of it, it's a loss to the hawker. Look at how they scatter vigorously the vegetables spread on the sacks, oranges and tomatoes start running too,to everywhere and no where !As if the whipping and beating is not enough, the sellers are flogged into the Askaris vehicles, mercilessly pushed with kicks, with the men given more, 'kuokotwa mabare . ' This is being inhuman! A true definition of cruelty and crucialty! The Askaris don't care if that's the way the street sellers get their daily bread.

Their cruelty extends to areas of car parking, where they take bribes, more than the required parking fee . You notice there are Street boys who call themselves kanjo too, they too ask for money before parking your car, failure to this, they'd steal the car tyres, break the side mirrors or if worse comes to worse throw /smear human waste on you. Try crossing the road where a bridge is around  and and experience the type of harassment the city Askaris will make you go through. This Is Nairobi city for you! They are Cruel at heart and never put humanity into consideration. Especially when taking bribes from  those struggling to make ends meet.

How do they even sleep at night? Recently the Askaris got exposed, and it was all over the News. It's disheartening the fact that this Askaris are making it to the millionaire and billionaire class just by this bribe and corruption trend. How hard is it for the government to look into this matter. Like do something. Funny how the story on the Askaris trends all over the media, creating headlines just for sometime then vanishes into the thinnest air. The harassment is too much. Why can't they just arrest people without  the whipping and flogging. Why not follow the laws, stop taking bribes and keep the streets under law and order as their mission is. I believe bribe and corruption cases should not be taken lightly!!! What do you think are other ways to stop the cruelty and crucialty of the City Council Askaris?
